Description |
Wooden sign for 'Sterrett' Station; painted light-grey with black lettering and a partial black rim. The station had it's own building as well as a dock and phone booth. This sign was attached to the phone booth. The station was named for the landowner over whose land the line ran; possibly James Sterret, a pioneer settler for whom the Sterrett Post Office was named. Sequentially, this station site was located after Black Siding when traveling north out of Waxahachie and just south of Red Oak. The phone found at this siding was for use by employees only. It was connected to a central dispatcher, located at Monroe shops, who provided information about which siding to use if they were meeting of a car. It was also used to report problems or issues.
