Proposed Dallas Express (Freight) Terminal Drawing - 1916. Note: The drawing is in one piece though the photos indicate two pieces. On the back of the drawing, are notes in pencil made by Johnnie J. Myers. They read as follows: 1916 Texas Electric Ry Dallas Freight Depot Blt [built] in 1916 Torn down in mid 1960's This is original track design it was not put in exactly like this dwg [drawing]. Jne This technical drawing was apparently drawn for solicitation of quotes for trackage that would surround the new freight terminal built in 1916. The area is bounded by Jefferson (west), Wood (north), Market (east) and Young (south) Streets. The Houston and Texas Central Railroad Depot sat on the north side of Wood Street. In the bottom left corner of the drawing is the following information related to quotes: Wanted Quotations on Layouts 1, 2 & 6 Solid Manganese only Rail Section 127-397 " " " No. 4 Curve & Crossing Rail Section 127-397 Quote Solid Manganese " " " Hard Center " " " Cast Steel " " " No. 5 6 Ladder Tracks Rail Section 127-397 " " " Solid Manganese " " " Hard Center " " " Cast Steel " " " No. 7 " " " Curve Rail Section 127-397 " " " No. 3 " " " Frog Switch & Mate 70 A.S.C.E. bolted Construction In the bottom right corner is: PROPOSED EXPRESS TERMINAL DALLAS TEXAS Scale 1"=20' June 30 [1916 cut off] In the drawing itself, note there are two existing railroad tracks on the south side of Wood Street. Proposed Electric Track 1 was between the two existing tracks. Proposed Electric Track 2 would sit between the larger building marked as 'Present Building' and a more narrow structure. Proposed Electric Tracks 3, 4, 5, and 6 would sit between two narrow building structures. Proposed Electric Track 7 would run along Young Street on the outside of the last narrow building structure. Proposed Electric Track 8 would run down Young Street. Other notes found on the right side of the drawing: NOTE Standard car to clear 3 cars on Tracks 4 & 5 by at least 6" STANDARD CARS length over drawbars 52'2" length over bumpers 50'0" width 9'0" truck centers 28'0" & 33'0" wheel base 6'6" radius of bumper ends 6'6" city & interuban flanges on Jefferson St. City flanges 13/16 deep interuban flanges 1 1/16 deep See: Map 8, Detail B |
