Scope & Content |
This section includes notes about cars 607 through 612 within the 600 series. The notes are handwritten on the back of recycled paper. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] [cont'd from CP.2006.CL.1-122 ZL] The coupler chains you mention. The chains on all other motors and trailers were located on each four corners of all cars, to uncouple, first pull one chain out about 8 in. and hook, next pull the chain on the other car, this would release the lock in coupler. While the 611 & 612 the coupler was a little different in the lock in coupler: most all times the pulling of the one chain would release 611 or 612, if not many times one would have to cross on the other side, just as there are only one hand to raise lift pins on Box Car. C.T.Dickerson 3/30/54 You will note that he gives 600-604 inc. as the first purchase, if this could be true: perhaps the 603 & 604 were stopped up to about say 608 and 609, as my reason for saying this - 609 always looked more like a factory built car. The use for express trailers was not needed the first few years of operation, as they had at least four express trains each way per day, so the need for trailers was not great, later they pulled off some of the express trains, and used trailers to handle the express and Frt. C.T.Dickerson 5/5/54 I just cannot remember any other (express trail cars in the original order) except 600 & 601. But as others say there were two more, perhaps it could have been correct, and later two of them changed to perhaps 609 and 60(?). I have thought many times that 609 had the car marks of a factory built car. C.T.Dickerson 11/3/54 |
