TER Bluebonnet Limiteds Promotional Ink Blotter |
Date |
ca 1927 |
Scope & Content |
TER Bluebonnet Limiteds Promotional Ink Blotter During the Roaring Twenties, when money was plentiful, extra services were welcomed by passengers who had the means to pay. Bluebonnet service was one of the options offered by Texas Electric, providing limited-stop service, mainly to principal cities along the lines. Advertising promotions called it "The transportation service SUPREME!" As part of the promotional campaign to persuade passengers to use the Blubonnet Limited coaches, Texas Electric Railway gave away special ink blotters on the assumption that anyone using the Bluebonnet Limited would be inclined to use a fountain pen and not a pencil. Text on the inkblotter is as follows: BLUEBONNET LIMITEDS Service DeLuxe --Luxurously and Comfortably equipped cars --the last word in Interurban Service _____________ between Dallas -- Waco -- Sherman -- Denison -- Corsicana Stamped in black ink below the text was: TEXAS ELECTRIC RAILWAY Stamped in black in above the cities and to the right was: Geo. H. Dirmeyer Commercial Agent Sherman, TX Since George Dirmeyer was not located in Sherman, TX before 1935 (per a Sherman City Directory), it's possible he had obtained the inkblotter during the era of the Bluebonnets and stamped it later, during the time he worked in Sherman. Bluebonnet cars were painted the brilliant blue of the Texas state flower of the same name. |
