Scope & Content |
This section includes notes about car 554 / 6 / 605 within the 500 series. The notes are typed on the back of recycled paper. [Transcription of the typed notes:] Express Motor #554 Texas Traction Company, in 1907, as part of its original equipment order, purchased ten new 600 volt two-man passenger motors from St Louis Car Company, of which #6 was one. This car, #6, was used as a 600 volt two-man passenger motor until the fall of 1912, at which time it was involved in a wreck. Following this wreck, this car was rebuilt and again placed in service as a 600 volt two-man passenger motor still numbered #6. The above mentioned wreck sprung the frame of this car and its riding qualities were impaired. Thus, at some unknown date, (most probably during the year 1913) this car, #6, was rebuilt into a 600 volt express motor and it was renumbered #554. In 1917 this car was transferred to the then formed Texas Electric Railway, but whether this was before or after the conversion mentioned in the following paragraph is not known. This car, #554, was used as a 600 volt express motor until some unknown date, at thich [sic] time electrical controls were removed and it was converted into as express trail car renumbered #605. This car, #605, was used as an express trail car until the final days of Texas Electric Railway Company in 1948, at which time it was dismantled. |
