Texas Electric Railway Employment Agreement effective 1 January 1947; pages 14-15. This pocket-sized, 52 page book, documented employment regulations for various classes of railroad workers. [pages 14-15 transcribed] [cont'd from page 13] Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, (provided than when any of the above holidays fall on Sunday the day observed by the State or Nation or by proclamation shall be considered the holiday) shall be compensated at the rate of time and one-half on the minute basis for actual service performed, with a minimum allowance of two (2) hours. (b) Paragraph (a) hereof will not apply to positions which have regular assigned working hours on Sundays and/or holidays, or to employes [sic] who work in the place of those so assigned, such employes [sic] in either instance to be compensated on the same basis as on week days. ARTICLE 8 Starting Time Regular assigned working hours will have a fixed starting time and such starting time will not be changed without at least twelve (12) hours notice to the employes [sic] affected, except as otherwise agreed between the affected employes [sic] and supervisory officers based on actual service requirements. ARTICLE 9 Meal Period When a meal period is allowed, it will not be less than twenty (20) minutes, nor more than one (1) hour, unless otherwise agreed upon by the employes [sic] affected and the supervisory officer. Meal period of twenty (20) minutes shall be allowed employes [sic] in freight and express train service between four and one-half (4½) and six (6) hours after going on duty when ---14--- practicable to the operation, time and place to be determined through communication with train dispatcher. ARTICLE 10 Determining Hourly and Daily Rates (a) To compute the hourly rate of monthly rated employes [sic], divide the monthly rate of pay by one-twelfth (1/12) of the number of regular assigned working hours in the year, fractions less than one-half (1/2) of one cent (1c) shall be dropped; one-half (1/2) cent or over to be counted as one cent (1c). (b) To determine the daily rate of monthly rated employes [sic], divide the monthly rate of pay by the number of regular assigned working days in the calendar month. ARTICLE 11 Witnesses (a) Employes [sic] taken away from their regular assigned duties, at the request of the Company, to attend court or to appear as witnesses for the Company on any Company matter, will receive the same pay for every day so held as they would have received for their regular assigned working hours. Extra employes [sic] will be paid for each day so held at their average daily earnings in the preceding pay roll period. They will be furnished transportation over the Company's lines, when necessary, and will be reimbursed for any necessary expenses while away from their headquarters.
