This section includes notes about Freight Motor 903 within the 900 series. The notes are typed on the back of recycled paper. [Transcription of the typed notes:] Freight Motor #903 Texas Traction Company, in 1911, purchased three new 600 volt "Limited Type" two-man passenger motors from American Car Company, of which #12 was one. In 1913 this car, #12, was renumbered #361 in accordance with the combined numbering scheme of Southern Traction Company and Texas Traction Company (integrated with both companies). In 1917, this car, #361, was transferred to the then formed Texas Electric Railway, where it continued as the same type, bearing the same number and was assigned the same tasks as formerly given it by Texas Traction Company. Whether this car was ever converted to one-man passenger operation is not known. This car, #361, was used as a 600 volt passenger motor until1934, at which time it was rebuilt and controls changed to a 1200 volt freight motor and it was renumbered #903. This car, #903, was used as a 1200 volt freight motor until the final days of Texas Electric Railway Company in 1948. It was one of two freight motors kept in use for salvage operations at Monroe Shops and to switch the Eighth St. packing plant pending arrangements by the Santa Fe to take over..After these several months of extended service into 1949, it was dismantled. |
