This section includes notes about cars 618 through 620 within the 600 series. The notes are handwritten on the back of recycled paper. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] Express Trail Cars #618 - #619 - #620 You once mentioned some parlor cars, lettered A, B, and C, instead of being numbered. Were these motors or trailers, and were there any other parlor cars? *Only three parlor cars. They were built from same type cars as 322 - 323 - 324. Then they were made into passenger trailers 455 - 456 - 457. Then converted into Express trailers 618 - 619 - 620. C.T. Dickenson (Undated) 1948 How many of the 600 series box trailers were bought new? I know some were rebuilt from old passenger cars. Can you tell me which ones, and what cars they were rebuilt from? *No. 618 - 619 - 620. We called these cars the 100 spots. [Note: term '100 spot' referred to the cars origins as Dallas Southern Traction cars numbered 100, 101, 102]. C.T. Dickenson 10/31/48 Now about the parlor cars. They were put on somewhere about 1918 and ran 2 or 3 years, as they did not pay. They were equipped with big plush chairs and lounges, with a smoker and main compartment. Brussels rugs on the floor and everything fixed up to make it as comfortable as any body's parlor at home. They had a porter to serve drinks and any thing a body would want. They were about 40 feet long, did not have any motor in them as they were pulled behind the Limited Cars. There were three of them, numbered A - B - C. E. E. Summers, 2/24/49 The only names of Mfg. Co inside these St. cars were St Louis Car Co. same as interurban cars, except the small Dallas Southern Traction Co. which read, Bradley ?? Boston, Mass. C.T. Dickenson 12/28/52 ~~ then 618 - 619 - 620 was made from parlor cars A B & C previous motor cars between Dallas & Waxa. 1912. C.T. Dickenson 1/28/53 [cont'd in CP.2006.CL.1-122 ZX] |
