Letter from C. T. Dickenson to W. P. Donalson, Jr.- handwritten note, hand drawn map, envelope a) Letter transcribed - [Header] Waco - 1 - 18 - 61 [Body] Dear Walter, nice to hear from you, and you gave me a real puzzle when you mentioned #187. If you remember it took me about 6 years to prove there was ever a 187, but never could hear what became of it. I never knew but very little of the D.RY and T equipment, but you may have discovered a last car, wish I could help, but am lost at this point. The plan for TERY to go around Hillsboro was very simple, and not too expensive as it would have took all the traffic from Waco St. But Waxahachie was a different problem, any way they looked at it, Don't think they ever could agree on a route however we were in pretty good shape in Waxa as that was Mr. Strickland, and Griffins hometown and we could get by with most anything, but I really think they would give us trouble later on. You ask about the Billfold, one of my neighbors made it for me. I tried to get one with a train on it, but was not about to find one with that design. Our grandson in Ill bought about $100.00 worth of leather and tools the last time he was down but as far as I can find out, he never did try to use them. (over) He told me when he left Waco, that he would try to find a pattern with a train or engine but haven't heard a word about it. His mother said he had not done anything along that line. I sure have enjoyed that Book you sent, have found a lot of good reading in it. I never dreamed there was 1/10 of the no. of interurbans as I find in the book, have spent many hours reading and dreaming about the past. Please do not let your Boss see the fancy drawing that I am enclosing because he might want to give me a job as draftman. I have not purchased a typewriter yet and I am lost without one. I still think I would like one with script type but most people say I will be sorry if I get one, do you have any advice? Yours, Charley b) [Handdrawn map of proposed route for railroad - note in top left] This was our dream for getting over M.K.T. and thru Hillsboro, Mr. Griffin and Mr. Floyd talked with me many times about this change, also they planned an overpass over the Hi-way to connect to our track on Rose Hill - South Hillsboro. But the threat of the C.I.O. union prevented carrying out this plan. I was for this plan 100 percent. c) Envelope - Top left: C. T. Dickenson, 1500 N. 9th Street, Waco, Texas; Center: Mr. Walter P.
