Scope & Content |
Photocopies of a two-page letter with two listed attachments sent by H. G. Dickenson to John S. Watson, CEO Chevron. Per Mr. Dickenson, he never received a response from Mr. Watson. The undated letter is handwritten in blue ink on two HDW Inc. purchasing forms. It's transcribed as follows: John S. Watson CEO Chevron San Ramon, CA Subject - (A Company Man) (A Forgotten Term) I am H. G. Dickenson, 95 years old - a retired wholesale hardware salesman after 50+ years. Also - son of C. T. Dickenson - a Motorman for Texas Electric R. R. for 30+ years. This is before your time Mr. Watson. In 1930's & 1940's Texaco sold $10 coupon books. Good for any Texaco products at service stations. The Texaco Freight Agent agreed for every coupon book my Dad bought, he would route one tank car over Texas Electric between Dallas & Waco. Perfect deal for my Dad (a company man). Over the years he bought 40 or more Books. He used them to buy everything - food - clothing, paint for the house, gas for his sons cars, he may have even paid his church pledge with gas books. When the employees voted to go union, he would not sign saying it would break the company whitch [sic] it did in 1949. I wish the younger gneration would take notice [end of page 1] work with your company not just for them. I hope this reaches your desk. Regards, H. G. Dickenson 3901 Watt Waco, TX 76710 254-7538138 Attachmens [sic]. 1. My last Texaco Book before entering the Air Force in 1942. Note Texaco still owes me 15 cents in my book. 2. News Articles about my Dad. [end of page 2] The attachments, in the order listed above, are more fully described as follows: 1a - One (1) page color photocopy of the cover of Book No. 26350L, The Texas Company Coupon Book, sold by Texaco. 1b - One (1) page color photocopy of the inside top cover of Book No. 26350L and the first page of three containing five one-cent coupons for purchase of Texaco products. 2a - Undated, one (1) page photocopy of a black & white newspaper clipping, from an unidentified newpaper [probably Waco Tribune-Herald]. It was entitled 'In 33 Years, Waco Motorman Drives Interurban Cars Over 3,000,000 Miles'. The story covers the employment of Charles T. Dickenson [photo included] who worked for Texas Electric Railway from 1915 until abandonment in 1948. 2b - Three (3) photocopied pages of a color, Waco Tribune-Herald newspaper clipping dated January 1, 1999. It was entitled 'Trip Down Memory's Rails'. The story records memories of Charles T. Dickenson, Jr's father working for Texas Electric Railway; includes photographs. |
