Scope & Content |
This section includes notes about Denison & Sherman Railway rolling stock. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] Denison and Sherman Railway Co Description and History of Rolling Stock Local Passenger Cars Eight local passenger cars have been attributed to the D.&S. Ry Co. These were numbered from one to eight inclusive. Cars number seven and eight were closed cars, short but with double trucks and two trolleys, and having two Westinghouse #101 motors. All other local cars, seemingly were closed cars, single truck, single trolley, and had "12A" motors. Numbers seven and eight were known to have been purchased new from American Car Company, in about 1908. A builders view of number five also exists, so this car too would seem to have been purchased new, possibly replacing a previous original number five. The next car in the series, number six might also have followed the same pattern. The remaining cars of this group, numbers one to four inclusive, and also any possible original umbers five and/or six, are fairly certain to have come from one of the predecessor lines in Denison or Sherman. Open Passenger Trail Cars Authorities disagree as to the number of these cars, such indication varying from five to eight. Known numbers are from #250 to #254 inclusive. Very little is known of these cars other than that they were double-truck and would seat about thirty passengers. These cars belonged originally to the steam dummy line in Denison and were taken over when that line was purchased. They were used by D&S Ry Co and by T.T. Co. [Texas Traction Company] until 1915. In 1918 they were dismantled, the bodies being placed on cribbing in Woodlake Park. Work Motor The number or description of the one work motor owned by the D.&S. Ry Co. is unknown. |
