Scope & Content |
This section includes interview notes about cars within the 500 series. The notes are handwritten on the back of recycled paper. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] Per - S B Mathis Mr. Dickerson ran a "Hot Shot" Express Waco to Dallas and return with LCL Freight The 500 type motors were used. Originally the same car was used both ways. This meant almost continuous use of this one particular motor. So that later on, different cars were used each way. #506 and #503 were used. #503 had special gears added later for extra heavy duty. #506 was made somewhat similar as to gearing of #503 but was never as good as #503. ____________________________________________________ Per W.E. Sturges #551 became #508, #552 became #507 These cars were reversed for some reason. At one time the #552 was derailed and in trying to re nail [?] it the motor was thrown up and dug into the side of the sill. Later - often numbers were changed - Mr. Sturges was able to recognize this mark in the #507 |
