Title |
Accident at Kirkland Siding |
Date |
1948, April 10 |
Description |
Two Texas Electric Interurban Railway Company Passenger Motors have collided with each other on the tracks as a group of on-lookers and rescuers mill about. At about 7:40 AM on April 10, 1948, southbound train 3 (car 365) met northbound train 6 (car 366) north of Kirkland siding, near the present day Royal Lane in north Dallas, with the result of a crash between the two cars. There were no fatalities, but thirty passengers and the 365's motorman were injured. For Texas Electric Railway Company, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. The accident, the third serious one in little more than two years, led management to the 'abandonment decision'. (pp104 in book "Texas Electric Railway", by Johnnie J. Myers).
