Title |
African-American TER Employees Stand in Car Door |
Date |
1948 |
Description |
Walter Robinson (right), cousin of T-Bone Walker, and Rodney Johnson, stand in the door of one of the 325-328 series Texas Electric Railway Company cars. They pose for final pictures as the system that had been one of the pillars of transportation in North Texas was prepared for shutdown and abandonment. Robinson worked for Texas Electric in the Main building in downtown Dallas; he drove and turned the cars around to put them in position for their runs. Normally, an African-American porter sold sandwiches in each parlor car. Of the 256 total Texas Electric Railway Company employees, 32 were African-American. See: Map 8, Detail C |
