Description |
Texas Electric Railway Company Class "C" Locomotive 952 at the Dallas Freight Terminal. In 1907, Texas Traction Company, as part of its original equipment order, purchased ten new 600 volt two-man passenger coach motors from St Louis Car Company, of which Interurban Motor 4 was one. In 1913, at the integration of Southern Traction and Texas Traction, it was renumbered 353 and assigned the same tasks as formerly. In 1917, Passenger Motor 353, was transferred to the then formed Texas Electric Railway, where it continued as the same type, bearing the same number and was assigned the same tasks as formerly given it by Texas Traction Company. In 1928, Passenger Motor 353 was withdrawn from service, rebuilt and renumbered 952, after which it was returned to service as a 600 volt freight motor. It remained in service in this configuration until the final days of Texas Electric Railway Company in 1948, at which time it was sold to Texas Transportation Company, a freight only electric railroad in San Antonio, Texas, where it continues to operate as Locomotive No. 2.
