Title |
"Serving the Heart of Texas" TER Express Motor 508 |
Date |
ca 1928 |
Description |
Billboard advertising was applied to two express motors for a short time in 1928; 501 and 508. Here is 508 beside the Electric Express Company warehouse at the Dallas freight terminal. The box motor had a blue body with red lettering. This paint scheme applied only to these two express motors and only in 1928 and 1929. The motor advertising, painted on the side of the car, reads: 'Ride the Interurban, Safe, Sure, Saving' and 'Serving the Heart of Texas'. Texas Electric management found freight service very profitable; they thought it could be made more so by adding advertising to the side of some freight cars. However, high maintenance costs made the project short lived. See: Map 8, Detail B |
