GLASS-PLATE NEGATIVE PRINT: North Side of Monroe Shops Carbarn looking southwest. The Monroe Shops, completed in 1914, was built to serve the maintenance needs of the Southern Traction Company and Strickland's Texas Traction Company. Built at the junction of the Waco and Corsicana lines, four miles south of Dallas, it consisted of a machine shop, car repair barn, paint shop, offices and a lecture hall. It remains the only example of an interurban railway maintenance facility in Texas and as such, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. See: Map 3; Map 8, Detail A |
