Okla Rys - El Reno city car (typed on the back) and on the front is written "Business Section, El Reno, Okla." El Reno Interurban Railway was in existence in 1908. Oklahoma Railway Company acquired it in 1911. Oklahoma Railways was in operation until 1946. The picture was used in the book, 'When Oklahoma took the trolley" by Allison Chandler. In the book, credit is given to Stephen D. Maguire. This picture was a wider angle than the picture in the book. The pictures were in an envelope from Charles V. Hess to W. P. Donalson (CP.2025.CL.5-088). Unsure of who is the photographer. Stamped on the picture in purple ink - Charles V. Hess, 413 So. Seventh Street, Goshen 4, Indiana. Research shows Charles as a member of CERA. He would advertise in newspapers looking for pictures of Interurbans. Many of the pictures in this collection were copies of originals. |
