TER Passenger Motor 314 at Dallas Terminal Yard |
Date |
ca 1922 |
Description |
Texas Electric Railway Passenger Motor 314 [Train 222] in Dallas Terminal Yard. Originally purchased from the St Louis Car Company by Southern Traction Company, it was wrecked in 1927 and never rebuilt. It's recoverable parts, such as motors, were built into a locomotor. Note: The large painted number on the front of the car, in this case 314, is the equipment number. It was required by the Federal Railroad Administration and the carrier's insurance company. The number in the box above the advertisement (222) is the "block number" or "train number", which was assigned to a slot on the run schedule. If you look at a TE employees timetable, above each run going vertically, is the number assigned to that run. This was the number passenger's looked for when catching a ride. An advertisement, below the train number box, reads: Majestic Dallas Big Time Vaudeville Tom Wise with Miss Nila Mac in "Memories" This photo was dated based on the opening date of the Majestic Theatre (April 21, 1921).
