Description |
Wooden sign painted light-grey with a black rim and black lettering that reads 'BLACK'. This sign was attached to the phone booth at Black Siding. There was no station or dock at this siding. Sequentially, this siding was located between North Waxahachie Siding and Sterrett Station when traveling north out of Waxahachie. It was named for the landowner over whose land the line ran. Dallas Southern Traction Company, owned by Stone and Webster Co. of Boston, had a substation at the location of Black Siding until 1913. The property was sold in that year to to Southern Traction Company, at which time the substation was torn down. The phone found at this siding was for use by employees only. It was connected to a central dispatcher, located at Monroe shops, who provided information about which siding to use if they were meeting of a car. It was also used to report problems or issues.
