Scope & Content |
This section includes notes from various men employed by Denison & Sherman Railway. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] You mention some small interurban cars brought to Waco during World War I from the Denison-Sherman line. Were those the original cars of the Denison-Sherman Ry? What were the numbers they had when in Waco? Yes, they were original D-S Ry cars. Don't remember the numbers. Questions by W.G.R. Answers by C.T. D. 1948 - 1949 They [lined out] for World War # 1 ---- they brought ---- two small interurban cars from Denison-Sherman line, and would use one or two trailers behind those small interurban cars on Prov. Hts and N 5th lines. C.T.D. 2-23-49 We had three cars, all single truckers with only one trolley pole and hand brakes that operated in Denison. In Sherman they had five cars, three of them were single truck the same as those in Denison, and the other two were double trucked, with two trolley poles, one at each end. In McKinney, they only operated one single trucker, which gave 30 minute service on all the lines. These cars would seat about 40 passengers, and were made by the American Car Co. St. Louis, Mo. They were equipped (with) GE motors which operated on 600 volt D.C. Don't know when they were built. The car barns were at Wood Lake and all cars were at Wood Lake every night and went through the shops. There were no electric cars in Denison before the Denison & Sherman line. There was a street R R here. They pulled passenger cars with an engine. It was called the dummy line. But when they built the Denison & Sherman line and electrified it, they took the two dummy cars and put motors in them and used them in emergency between Denison and Sherman. The D & S bought three cars from the American Car Company, St. Louis, to operate between Denison and Sherman, [identified in upper right corner of the page as '4' of a series of 8 handwritten pages] |
