This section includes notes from various men employed by Denison & Sherman Railway. [Transcription of the handwritten notes:] [cont' from CP.2006.CL.1-117 I] [page] x 9 ...think Matt Lawson told of this same wreck, but never dreamed of ever seeing the picture of the accident. C. T. Dickenson March 22, 1954. Murral Rutlege [sic] was killed on train # 82 car #52 north of Wood Lake when in a head on collision with a ball park special run by Fatty Williams of Waco. He may be dead, if not he might tell you more about just why he left Wood Lake right in the face of a regular train. R. S. Bloss 3-30-54 As to the #188-189-190-191, I will have to take that with a grain of salt. You are the only person that ever told me that (The above cars might have been created from T.T. Co trail cars). Could they have been made from the oepen trailers that Mr. Lawson shows in one of his pictures. I still hope to produce #187 somedya. Seems that Mr. Lawson spoke of a change in numbers on these cars, or was that Mr. E. A. Oliver? C. T. Dickenson 4-19-54 The old Denison and Sherman compnay had 8 city cars, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 and five interurban cars 21-22-23 were bought new and 24 and 25 were old coaches off of the steam road dummy, as it was known, between Denison and Sherman. D & S railway put motors & controllers on them and put them in service. One of these two cars killed Mureal [sic] Rutledge in collision near Woodlake. The other was in collision with an express north of Woodlake. Both of them were burned at the place where they were wrecked. R. S. Bloss 5-2-54 |
