    This is the story of Woodlake Park, a resort lake and recreational park that opened in 1901. It was created by J. P. Crearer, the founder of The Denison and Sherman Railway Company, which provided service to the resort.

  5. Denison & Sherman Railway Jewett 21 - ca 1901

    Denison and Sherman Railway Jewett 21 awaits passengers in the square at Sherman. Operator and conductor stand at either end of the car. Behind the car is the Walsh Hardware Company building. The Denison and Sherman Railway Company purchased three new combination motor cars from the Jewett Car Company. These double-truck, single-end cars with open rear platforms were delivered in April 1901 over the St. Louis Southwestern Railway.

    Denison and Sherman Railway Jewett 23 passengers are shown at Woodlake Park in 1902. It was common for groups to charter two, three, or even four cars for a daylong excursion at the park. Car 23 is one of the Jewetts and 32, behind it, is an ex-Denison Steam Dummy Trailer.
