https://roneyfuneralhome.com/book-of-memories/2721496/deschenes-jean/obituary.php Obituary for JEAN A. DESCHENES III Jean A. Deschenes III passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 1 at the age of 80 following a brief illness. Born in Acushnet, MA, the only child of J. Alfred and Mary Grace Deschenes, he was raised in South Dartmouth, MA. Jean married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Mager, and graduated from UNH in 1959 after serving in the U.S.Navy. He worked in marketing and advertising for many years but will best be remembered for his unique interests and hobbies which he pursued diligently. Most notably he was an expert-level model-maker of custom ship models, trains and trolleys. An enthusiastic rail fan, he built an impressive HO gauge train layout. If it could "go", he probably owned one, drove one, or built a model of one. Jean earned his pilot's license at age 16. He held a CDL and drove an oil tanker part-time. He could operate a train, a tractor, and sail a boat. He was a volunteer member of the Seashore Trolley Museum for 40 years. He loved music and sang in the Congregational Church of Grafton Choir. The Grafton Historical Society honored him in 2011 for his contribution of three scale models of the mills in town which he built entirely from old photos and plans. He also volunteered at the Willard Clock Museum. Jean and Nancy spent many years traveling the country, often with their grandchildren, in their motor home, spending winters at Picacho Peak State Park in Arizona. Together they saw Europe, Portugal, Hawaii and Alaska by train, boat and plane. Always active, Jean enjoyed hiking and walking and was a regular at the YMCA gym. Devoted to his family, Jean leaves his wife Nancy; daughter Debbie Schradieck and her husband, Peter; daughter Cindy Deschenes and her partner John Creedon of Sutton; Andy and his wife Laura Deschenes of Grafton; and Rick and his wife Kathy Deschenes of Sutton. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Anne Clemons, Derek Schradieck, Nathaniel, Jacob & Jordan Bartlett; Andre, Mary and Grace Deschenes, and Ashley and Brooke Deschenes; plus two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Madison Lavallee-Bartlett. All are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:00 on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Congregational Church of Grafton 30 Grafton Common Grafton MA 01519. Collation will follow in the Fellowship Hall. The family requests that flowers be omitted and a donation made to The Congregational Church of Grafton, 30 Grafton Common, Grafton MA 01519. Funeral arrangements are under the care of RONEY FUNERAL HOME 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton MA 01536. |
