CERA Fan Trip |
Details |
Twenty-six members of the Central Electric Rail Fans Association, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, came to Dallas on July 3 and 4, 1948, to take a final ride on the Texas Electric Railway system after stockholders and management agreement to abandon the system. Some of the members came from as far away as Boston, Massachusetts; others came from Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Michigan. CERA founding member, George Krambles, was Trip Director. On Saturday, 3 July, W. P. Donalson Jr. and E. V. Nichols, both of Dallas, and other CERA members were joined by Texas Electric Railway General Superintendent H. G. Floyd, H. C. McIntosh, Passenger Traffic Manager; and G. H. Peters, Power Superintendent. The car operator was J. A. Turrentine. They photographed and rode over the Dallas-Waco line in their special railcar, number 328, and when they arrived in Waco, Texas Electric treated the rail fans to a surprise chicken dinner. On Sunday, 4 July, CERA members rode on Passenger Motor 365 to see the Dallas-Denison line. Assistant Superintendent E. S. Burdet was in charge of this days travels for Texas Electric. H. G. Floyd participated in this portion of the trip too. |
